Coldplay still hot on U.K. chart

Album, single holding down No. 1 spots

LONDON -- Coldplay's international chart domination was extended Sunday as it scored a double triumph on the new U.K. sales charts. As "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" (Parlophone/EMI) started a second week as Britain's No. 1 album, "Viva La Vida" debuted atop the singles survey to become the band's first U.K. No. 1 hit.
The album stayed ahead of Duffy's "Rockferry" (A&M/Universal), which moved back from No. 3 to No. 2 in its 16th chart week, changing places with Neil Diamond's "Home Before Dark" (Columbia). Northern dance label All Around the World won another notable chart victory as hardcore DJ-producer Darren Styles' "Skydivin'" entered at No. 4.
U.K. rock trio Feeder debuted at No. 8 with its sixth studio album, "Silent Cry" (Echo), and Sara Bareilles' "Little Voice" (Columbia/Sony BMG) made its U.K. debut at No. 9, as the single "Love Song" moved up again from No. 5 to No. 4.
There was a No. 11 start for critically lauded Seattle band Fleet Foxes' self-titled debut on Bella Union and a remarkable No. 16 start for late Beach Boy Dennis Wilson's revived 1977 solo set "Pacific Ocean Blue" (Epic/Sony BMG). Veteran English entertainer Petula Clark's "Then & Now -- The Very Best Of" (UMTV/Universal) came in at No. 17 and "Strength in Numbers" (Polydor), the third album by Leeds rock band The Music, at No. 19.
Coldplay's No. 1 start on the singles chart follows the recent No. 8 peak for first single "Violet Hill," and is the band's eighth U.K. top 10 hit. It outdoes their previous highest-ranking releases "In My Place" and "Speed of Sound," which peaked at No. 2 in 2002 and 2005, respectively. "Violet Hill" rose 12-11 on the new chart as another track from the "Vida" album, "Lost!", climbed 62-55 on download sales.
The new singles chart also saw Ne-Yo's "Closer" (Def Jam/Universal) climbing 3-2 and Chris Brown's "Forever" (Jive/Sony BMG) 8-5. Brown has two concurrent top 10 titles, as Jordin Sparks' "No Air" (RCA/Sony BMG), on which he features, jumped 22-10. There was a No. 14 entry for "We Made It" (Interscope/Universal) by Busta Rhymes featuring Linkin Park, as the Jonas Brothers' first European single "SOS" (Hollywood/EMI) came in at No. 16.
Duffy continues her reign on Billboard's pan-European sales charts, with "Rockferry" in a third consecutive and sixth aggregate week atop European Top 100 Albums. "Mercy" leads Eurochart Hot 100 Singles for a second straight week, and third overall.

Making an inner city back street of purloin, apocalyptic trip-hop their home, Germany's Terranova could arguably have started back in the '80s, the instant initiation member Fetisch heard the impenetrable beatniks of American hip-hop swagger through his fatherland. An divine move to New York City happened curtly thereafter, leading Fetisch to numerous DJ appearances and an early chemical bond with the Stereo MC's, just it was only when he returned rest home and met up with Marco Meister (classically-trained pianist) and Kaos (graffito artist) to finally release a handful of 12" under the professional wrestling-friendly moniker of Turntable Terranova that the production iII was rightfully natural. The group's anti-provincial beat experiment agilely entered dance culture with their lasting, much-respected DJ Kicks installment, released in 1998 (the band today assumptive the shorter Terranova tag) while endless comparisons to Kruder & Dorfmeister or Tricky were lavished about. What truly seemed to sign Terranova as a unequaled musical rhythm in trip-hop, however, was 1999's Close the Door, a surprisingly original debut full-length put out by Copasetik Recordings with collaborations by Einstürzende Neubauten's Alexander Hacke, San Francisco's Rasco, and -- approach full forget me drug -- Cath Coffey of the Stereo MC's. In 2002, the Berlin trio emerged with the eclectic Hitchhiking Non-Stop with No Particular Destination.

Jessica Simpson - Simpson Slams Press Lies

JESSICA SIMPSON has blasted the press for making up stories about her and her manager-dad JOE - insisting so many of the reports about her family life have been fabricated.

The singer is astonished by rumours about her private life, including one claim that her father fit her for her first bra.

And she is even more surprised that people think they are true.

She says, "There have been stories that are ridiculous. Like my father really fit me for a training bra. Like, who believes that kind of thing!?"

Dickinson still rolling

A Catherine Wheel reunion isnt totally out of the question, according to Rob Dickinson.

The front man for the 90s U.K. alt-rockers responsible for such singles as Black Metallic, The Nude and Crank even proffered a time frame: Just not this year.

Everyone still keeps in touch, Dickinson tells Metro of his relations with guitarist Brian Futter, drummer Neil Sims and latter-day bassist Ben Ellis. It might be 2010 as the time to think about doing something again. But well see.

Ideally, that would mark 20 years since Catherine Wheel first formed in Great Yarmouth, England, and 10 years since the parking of the band, as Dickinson affectionately calls it, following its fifth record, Wishville.

For Canadian fans, the last known sighting of Catherine Wheel was during Our Lady Peaces cross-country Summersault musicfest in 2000. But Dickinson explains by that time, Some of that sense of adventure had disappeared. There was no reason for us to keep slogging away other than to please ourselves. We all had other things we wanted to do.

Futter and Sims immersed themselves in a project called 50 Ft. Monster and Ellis joined a new group, Serafin. Dickinson, meanwhile, moved to New York and later California (where he now calls home), reignited an old passion for designing high-end sports cars (Porsches in particular) and working at a snails pace toward his 2005 solo debut for Sanctuary Records, Fresh Wine For The Horses.

(The record) took a long time to get ready in the first place I tend to be notoriously slow at everything, he jokes.

Even after its release, Dickinson still felt the disc could be improved. While he says Sanctuary might not have initially given the record its proper due the label disappeared in late 2007 he credits interest from producer pal Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, Catherine Wheel) and Universal Canada president and CEO Randy Lennox in giving a reworked Fresh Wine, re-released last week on the Fontana International label, a second shot.

It was that rare opportunity to be able to reassess the record by messing around with the sequencing, he says, doing some editing, remastering and adding a new song, The End Of The World, plus the second disc Nude (with six acoustic reworkings of Catherine Wheel favourites). I genuinely think this album is now in a state where it shouldve been the first time around.

Mortification is considered by many to be the most extreme Christian band in existence. Formed in 1990 from the remains of a dance orchestra called Lightforce, Mortification sought-after to bring home the bacon a plus alternate to traditional last metal acts such as Carcass, Death and Obituary. On the strength of their self-titled 1990 debut, Mortification quickly gained a reputation in their native Australia for being one of the loudest and quickest bands around. Their 1992 review, Scrolls of the Megilloth, garnered the band some attention from the heavy metal resistance and contains some of the nearly frightening vocals ever recorded. Their subsequently albums were more than observational, combining elements of punk rocker, demise and thrash metallic element; they include 1998's Prevail of Mercy and 2000's 10 Years Live, Not Dead. Bassist/vocalist Steve Rowe has handled almost of the songwriting chores for chemical group, and is the only unexpended original fellow member.
